Tesla Paint Protection: Choose the Ultimate Way to Protect Your Investment
The Tesla PPF (paint protection film) application is a smart choice for conscious Tesla owners. It will protect the original paintwork from damage and increase the resale value of your electric car.
What is a Tesla paint protection film?
Paint protection films (PPFs) are thermoplastic urethane films stretched over your Tesla’s body. Acting like a shield between the original paint and the outside environment, they prevent its damage from light scratches, road debris, stone chips, chemicals, UV rays, bird droppings, etc. The technologically advanced paint protection has self-healing properties—with the application of heat, the minor scratches will simply disappear!
PPF is transparent (that’s why it’s also known as “clear bra” or “clear coat”), so the color of your Tesla won’t change. Compared to wrap vinyl films, it is thicker and much stronger. If you apply it while the electric car is brand-new, you will keep the original paint in its pristine condition and increase your Tesla resale value!
At Tinting Chicago, we work with the leading paint protection brand—XPEL. We are an XPEL-certified company, and all our technicians have been professionally trained to impeccably install the best paint protection films for our customers’ Teslas.
Paint Protection Film for Tesla
Why get Tesla PPF in the first place?
Teslas require extra care for their paint
We love Teslas. However (and it’s a well-known fact), their factory paint is on the thin side. Naturally, it is more prone to chipping and scratching. Tesla’s famous aerodynamics also involves increased paint damage risk: the rocker panels tend to grab rock chips, dirt, and dust, creating a slick coating on the surface. Applying PPF can prevent these risks, creating a strong protective layer over your electric car’s body.
Protection from the parking lot door dings
As a driver, you most likely experienced the nightmare of getting your Tesla squeezed up by another “smartly” parked vehicle. Or even worse: returning to your car to see a scratch or a dent on your door! The term “ding” translates as the paint damage in case two vehicles are parked too close to each other and one bangs the door of the other. The paint protection film application won’t eliminate the risk—but it sure will eliminate a small scratch thanks to its self-healing properties and protect the original paintwork from the dents. The same refers to any other “accidental” situations on the road.
Investment protection
Tesla is a good investment. If you choose to apply the paint protection film right after you’ve bought it, it would automatically mean that you preserve the vehicle’s paint in its original condition. This increases the resale value of your Tesla: if you decide to sell, you can simply remove the PPF or keep it.

Tesla PPF: when to apply?
It is recommended to bring your electric car to the shop about two weeks after you’ve bought it. The maximum period that the paint on new Teslas will still stay in good condition is two months, but of course, it will depend on the particular situation. Feel free to book an appointment in one of the Tinting Chicago shops, and we will let you know whether the paint protection film application is recommended for your Tesla or if you should consider the other options.

Paint protection film or ceramic coating: which is right for my Tesla?
Good question! Tesla PPF and ceramic coating application are two completely different services, so it’s technically not correct comparing them!
While paint protection film shields the original paint from outside damage and the UV rays, the ceramic coating provides a cool, sleek shiny finish to your car and protects the paint from UV damage. Plus, it adds a strong hydrophobic layer—the water won’t stay on the surface. With the ceramic coating, it is very easy to maintain a Tesla! Just wipe away the dirt, and that’s it! If you want a “new car shine,” go for a ceramic coating.
But we will tell you a secret.
The best paint protection combo
For ultimate protection, we recommend combining the paint protection film and the ceramic coating! You get the best layer of protection for the original paintwork and an ideal shiny finish. Plus, very easy maintenance.
A pro tip: apply ceramic coating to the windshield window, and forget about the wipers! No water, no swirl marks—just the glass’s pristine condition!
